Robert de Niro attacks Trump:’Demonic’ and ‘I want to be tough without morals and ethics’

Date:

Donald Trump’s possible candidacy for the 2024 United States presidential election led actor Robert De Niro to express his opposition, something he has done forcefully for years. He even described the businessman as “demonic” and “devoid of morals and ethics”. These statements were part of a statement read during the “Stop Trump” event, held in New York and organized by New Republic magazine. Although the actor planned to attend the event in person, he tested positive for Covid and was unable to attend. Therefore, he sent the statement, read last Wednesday (13) by Miles Taylor, a former Trump administration official, who published a book criticizing the former president.

“I’ve spent a lot of time studying evil men, examining their characteristics and mannerisms, the banality of their cruelty. And yet, there’s something different about Donald Trump. When I look at him, I don’t see an evil man. I see a demonic man,” he said. De Niro in an excerpt from his letter. Furthermore, he highlighted that Trump has no “sense of right or wrong” and held him responsible for the crisis that the country faced in 2020 due to Covid.

“This man tries to act like a gangster, but fails. He’s a ‘I want to be tough’ type and has no morals or ethics. He doesn’t care about anyone but himself – not the people he’s supposed to lead and protect, not the people he deals with, not those who follow him blindly, not even his so-called friends. He doesn’t care about any of them,” criticized De Niro. He further sought to communicate with Trump supporters, stating that they are “not naive” and should not be judged for making a bad choice. De Niro argued that discussion with them should focus on other aspects, such as right and wrong, humanity, kindness, safety for the world and families, and decency. He called for a return to these values.
