Johnny Marr bans Donald Trump from using music in campaign

Date:

Former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr has announced his intention to take legal action to prevent the use of the band’s songs at Donald Trump rallies in the United States. The song “Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want” was played during political events in South Dakota last year, as well as at other rallies this year, such as in Laconia, New Hampshire.

On his social media, Marr expressed his surprise and outrage, declaring: “I would never in a million years have thought this could happen. Consider this issue closed right now.”

Marr joins a growing list of artists who have objected to the use of their music at Trump rallies, including Adele, the Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, the Rolling Stones, Queen, Pharrell Williams, and the estate of Prince, David Bowie and Tom Petty.

The song “Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want” was co-written by Marr and Morrissey in 1984.
