In her publication, Shari Bossuyt explains her refusal to appeal the case in court: “I am a 23-year-old girl who managed to make her hobby her profession. I’m not a drug addict and I never thought about it a day. No one seems to realize the impact this has on someone’s mental health. My Olympic dream is destroyed and having to walk every day with a ‘doped’ label is almost unbearable. Fortunately I find support from people who really listen to me, believe in me, and I also continue practicing sport because it’s good for me. I will prove that I will come back stronger.”
The cyclist stated that she had received the decision imposed by the French Anti-Doping Agency (AFLD) regarding the suspension for a specific period of time and that she would soon have the possibility to appeal, however, Shari Bossuyt reported that she would not be able to appeal as it would be a financial cost that at the moment I wouldn’t be able to maintain it.
The use of letrozole is prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WAD) and is generally found in people who ingest anabolic steroids, which may aim to increase testosterone production. The substance can also be diagnosed when it is ingested to treat postmenopausal moments.
