“The Marvels” filmmaker Nia DaCosta responded to allegations that she left the Marvel Studios film in the post-production phase to work on another project.

In an interview with the YouTube channel Jake’s Take, the filmmaker stated that the film went through a long development process, and that scheduling issues influenced her decision.

“For me, the issue is that they changed the date of the film four times. So instead of a two-year process, which I was very committed to, it became a three-and-a-half-year process. They knew that I I had an obligation, a movie that had already been greenlit, and there were people waiting for me. I kept putting it off and putting it off. Eventually, we all knew that if [Marvels] got postponed again, I wouldn’t be able to be in L.A. in person. .”

The director’s speech is a response to a recent controversy arising from an article in Variety magazine about the direction of the MCU.

As a result, the publication claims that DaCosta’s departure during the film’s post-production caused drama behind the scenes. “If you’re directing a $250 million movie, it’s kind of strange that the director leaves with a few months to go,” said a source. At the time, DaCosta moved to London to begin filming Hedda, a film starring Tessa Thompson.

The film features Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), Fóton; Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), Captain Marvel; and Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), Ms. Marvel. The three find themselves unpredictably connected due to their powers, and unite against a common enemy.

In addition to the three protagonists, Samuel L. Jackson returns as Nick Fury, while the supporting cast also includes Park Seo-joon (Parasite).

The direction is by Nia DaCosta, from the celebrated remake of Candyman. “The Marvels” is scheduled to premiere on November 10th.
