The victory celebrates the best time an athlete managed to achieve ten years after the record set by François Pervis, in the same competition held in Mexico, in 2013. Just this year, Jeffrey Hoogland set exorbitant limits, being the current Olympic champion in the team sprint and in the time trial.

“It is the crowning of my titles and a wonderful start to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. I can’t enjoy it at the moment, it hurts so much everywhere. I’m very happy with the world record, that’s why I came here. The fact that I’m almost 1 second faster is really cool”, said the athlete after winning the competition.

The athlete continued: “I don’t know how long my career will last, but I want to remain associated with the sport forever with a world record. The fact that I have now achieved it is fantastic. I am very grateful to all the partners who gave me this opportunity.”

Still willing to face more barriers, Jeffrey Hoogland stated that he would participate in the competition in order to break another world record in the 200 meter stage, which Nicholas Paul from Trinidad and Tobago achieved in 2019, in Bolivia.
